Memorial Day – a time to remember all the soldiers who have fought and died for our freedom. Lee Greenwood’s I’m Proud To Be An American is one of my favorite patriotic songs. It encompasses for me all the deeds soldiers have done for us. I remember the first time I heard the song I was driving in my car, it brought tears to my eyes. I have a hard time listening to it without a lump forming in my throat.

The chorus always touches my heart:

And I’m proud to be an American

where at least I know I’m free

And I won’t forget the men who died

And gave that right to me.

This song sings about Memorial Day. When you think of every war, men and women have fought to keep the red, white and blue strong and free. We are allowed to have differences opinions in this country without fear of being arrested or dragged from our homes and killed. We can go to the voting booth and vote for our candidate without being threatened or being killed as we walk towards the booth.

Is this country perfect? No. But America stands for freedom. And like Lee Greenwood sings, I’m glad to be an American and I’d gladly stand up to defend her.

To all the war veterans, current enlisted men and officers, I salute you and thank you for defending my freedom.
